Causes of severe back pain

Severe back pain usually originates from the muscles, nerves, bones or other structures of the spines. Although any one can experience back pain, usually, the first attack of back pain occurs between the age of 30 and 40. Back pain is more common among people who are not physically fit. A person can experience severe back pain if he or she takes diet rich in calories and fat combined with an inactive life style. You may come across many back pain causes that includes mechanical problems, injuries, diseases, infections and tumours.  The most common cause of severe back pain is a condition called intervertebral disk degeneration that means disks located between the vertebrae of the spine is breaking with age. As the discs deteriorate, they lose their cushioning capability. This problem can lead to pain if the back is strained. Other back pain causes include spasms, muscle tension, and ruptured disks, which are also called herniated disks.

Many diseases can even contribute to severe back pain including arthritis, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Other causes of back pain include pregnancy; kidney stones or infections and fibromyalgia, a condition of widespread muscle pain and fatigue. Though the main reason of severe back pain is physical stress, emotional stress also contributes in how severe the pain is and how long will it last.

Severe back pain can also result from everyday activity or poor posture. You may experience back pain while bending awkwardly, pushing something, standing for long periods, muscle tension or long driving sessions without a break. The treatment of severe back pain generally depends on what kind of pain you experience. You can reduce acute back pain with or without a proper treatment. But severe back pain and chronic back pain must not be overlooked. You must consult a good doctor who uses the best type of treatment depending upon the type of pain that you experience. Hot or cold packs or sometimes combination of two can help you get back ache relief. This method can help you only when you have acute back ache but this method cannot help if you have chronic back pain.
